What We Do

Base-Building for Collective Action

We do the long-term base-building work we need to win social change in the South.

Although workers and parents make up an overwhelming majority of the population, people in positions of power—the politicians, CEOs, and school leaders—all too often make decisions without responding to the needs of everyday people.

Step Up brings workers and parents together to exercise power through collective action, connect with decision-makers, and engage in direct action to leverage existing accountability measures when the system fails to be responsive.

Training Organizers to Build Transformative Power

Louisiana needs a concerted effort to develop the organizing capacity for Black and working-class residents to demand and win a seat at the table.

Recognizing this, Step Up Louisiana developed its Organizer In Training (OIT) program to build out organizing capacity in Louisiana at scale. We also prioritize ongoing training and leadership development opportunities for our base, including new member political orientation and ongoing skills training to strengthen and grow our membership.

Voter Mobilization

Step Up’s Get Out the Vote canvass operation organizes voters to use their power at the ballot box to win education and economic justice.

In the fall of 2023, we orchestrated our largest election operation to date, with 44,000 doors knocked across our three chapters.
