Economic Justice

More than a quarter of Louisiana children live in poverty.

Without state policies guaranteeing a living wage, paid leave, insurance coverage, union bargaining rights or other worker protections, many Louisianans can’t find jobs that will allow them and their families to thrive.

Step Up Louisiana is fighting for a future in which all Louisianans can make ends meet and provide for their families. We bring together workers and community members to pressure employers and policymakers in order to win the economy we deserve.

Current Campaign Priorities

  • Our Dollar Store Workers Rising campaign is an effort to organize with Dollar Store workers to win better pay and safer stores.

  • Our Economic Justice 3-point Platform in Jefferson Parish is pushing forward a $15 minimum wage, equal pay for equal work for women, and a fair chance in hiring for people with a record of involvement with the criminal justice system.

  • Our Workers’ Bill of Rights campaign is fighting for the right to a living wage, paid leave, the ability to organize a union free from threats or intimidation and healthcare coverage.
