Step Up Louisiana protested of the huge health care cuts to pay for the tax cuts for the wealthy recently passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. 234,000 Louisianans would actually pay more in taxes under this bill. The bill would cut $393,000,000 from Louisiana Medicare in 2018. Louisiana families will see a $1900 increase on their health insurance premiums in 2019. A tax cut for the wealthy is being paid for by a working class and middle class tax hike and cutting essential services.

Pothole Infrastructure Protest

Do you see that pothole? That is just one of countless pieces of crumbling infrastructure in New Orleans. With the Trump administration talking about private infrastructure investment we demonstrated with our allies Our Revolution, Indivisible and Mobilize here in New Orleans. We called for direct investment and good jobs not selling off our roads, bridges, schools and water systems to huge corporations and Wall Street. See this clip from the Gambit.

Fighting for Equal Pay with OUR Walmart

Step Up Louisiana 2nd Lined to the Walmart on Tchoupitoulas to close the gender pay gap with our allies at OUR Walmart, Stand with Dignity, Women with A Vision, RIDE New Orleans and Fight for 15 on a rainy Monday in New Orleans. A powerful and fun letter delivery action. Check out this clip from WDSU.

Membership drive!

For our kick off last weekend we went out, had a good meeting and a good training then it started pouring rain. The membership drive continues! Let us know if you want to help out.

Step Up Louisiana joined with our allies for a speak out to try to find #MilkCartonKennedy. We called out the absence of our Senator John Neely Kennedy with a solid lineup of intersectional speakers linking the Trump Regime (and Kennedy's backing) to our local struggles. Great turnout and fantastic press. Check out some great media from WDSU, WWL, and The Gambit.

First Action Victory Against Uber!

Step Up Louisiana sprung into action after we learned that Uber tried to break the Taxi drivers strike in NYC and their CEO Travis Kalanick was scheduled to be on Trump's economic advisory council. We coordinated with the Center for Popular Democracy network and that afternoon we won! Uber's CEO stepped down from Trump's advisory council.

Read the Times-Picayune article covering our action here.
